After almost a month in South African prison, the Zimbabwean businessman was freed after being granted R150,000 bail at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

However, Frank Buyanga’s joy at finally being released from remand prison was short-lived. The Zimbabwean businessman was re-arrested shortly after his release after the South African authorities filed new criminal charges against him.

The Zimbabwean businessman is expected to appear in court next week to answer to the new charges.

The businessman’s lawyer, Advocate Mafu, told the online publication Zimlive,

“His bail application was successful for the extradition matter. It has been set at R150,000. However, on Wednesday the day before yesterday brought about new charges of fraud, contravention of the Immigration Act and defeating the ends of justice. He is going back for bail application next Tuesday for that matter.”

Buyanga was initially denied bail by South African courts before he filed an application challenging his extradition on the grounds that the arrest warrant was wrongly issued.

His latest bail application was successful after the magistrate ruled that Frank Buyanga is not a flight risk due to his substantial business interests in South Africa.

The SAPS revealed that Frank Buyanga’s charges emanated from 2020 when he kidnapped his son from his baby mama Chantelle Muteswa.

“The charges emanate from an incident which took place in April 2020 in Zimbabwe where the suspect kidnapped his next of kin and fled with him to South Africa.

“A warrant of arrest was immediately issued by Zimbabwean Authorities, after which a red notice was also issued by Interpol Harare,” reads the statement.

After he kidnapped his son, Frank Buyanga was put on the wanted list in Zimbabwe after he failed to return the child to his ex-lover within the stipulated time frame.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police ended up ropping in Interpol to assist in apprehending the businessman whom they described as a fugitive from justice.
