Just weeks after winning the seat of an ANC ward councillor in Greater Giyani Municipality; Douglas Bembani has lost his 13-year-old daughter in a mysterious manner. As gathered, the teenager was mur_dered last week at Nkomo B Village outside Giyani; in Limpopo, by a man who allegedly asked her for R5 on learning that her father is a councillor and had wads of money at home.
The 32-year-old man reportedly stopped Neo Bembani and demanded R5 but when the Grade 7 pupil refused; the man sta_bbed her to de_ath instantly. However, an angry mob descended on the shameless man and be_at him to a pulp. He was later rushed to the hospital where he died. Giyani Police Spokesman, Thomas Makhubele confirmed this. Devastated by Bembani’s de_ath, Gezani Bembani, Neo’s uncle, and family spokesperson expressed sadness that the young girl was brutally mur_dered by a man who is not even alive to tell them how he killed her.
“We don’t know why he ki_lled our daughter in such a cruel manner. We wanted him to be tried and face the music in court. We wanted justice to prevail for our daughter,” he wailed. In response, a local chief in the community, Hosi Gem Mahumani said Neo was a brilliant and hardworking girl with a bright future. He said: “This tragedy has hit us below the belt as a community.
We lost our angel, she had enormous potential, and she could have been a teacher or doctor and helped to develop the community.” The Principal of Nkomo Primary School, Daniel Ngoane Neo lamented that Neo was sla_ughtered “like a chicken”. He also praised the daughter of Douglas Bembani for her brilliance and recalled that she was also awarded as “Best Reader in Xitsonga” and always passed mathematics by more than 80%.
