Former Idols SA judge, renowned singer, and actress Marah Louw has made a shocking revelation about her music career, stating that she has never received a cent for her musical contributions.
Marah Louw, who recently participated in a march organized by artists protesting against record labels, brought attention to the financial challenges faced by artists in her age group.

During the protest heard by the Daily Sun, Louw spoke passionately about the difficulties she and other veterans encounter, including the lack of financial support and recognition.
She revealed that despite her songs achieving significant success, she had never received any royalties or payment for her music.
“Most of the tracks, Take Me To The River, I Can’t Stop Myself, and others were number one on all radio stations, but I’ve never received a penny for any of the songs. Absolutely nothing,” Louw expressed with frustration.

Louw further elaborated on the alleged sabotage she faced from record labels throughout her career.
According to her, her albums were intentionally withheld from stores, preventing her music from reaching a wider audience. She claimed that this was a deliberate tactic by the industry, as they wanted her to compete with other popular artists such as Brenda Fassie.

In addition to the financial struggles, Louw shared an incident from 1982 that added to her frustrations. She recorded an album that faced significant challenges, with journalists and other record companies criticizing its high production costs. Louw had arranged for a big band orchestra, which further escalated the expenses. Sadly, the album did not receive the support it deserved, and distributors were allegedly instructed to discard her records.
Despite these setbacks, Louw remains resilient and continues to pursue her artistic endeavors. She emphasized that her income primarily comes from performing on stage, acting, and writing.
