South African Police Services (SAPS) and the South African Revenue Service (SARS) conducted a surprise raid at the La Lucia home of entrepreneur and reality TV star Shauwn Mkhize, widely known as MaMkhize. The raid took place shortly after the finalization of her divorce from her ex-husband, Sbu Mpisane, following a six-year legal battle.

Investigation Over Millions In Unpaid Taxes

While authorities have not disclosed the exact reason for the raid, MaMkhize is reportedly under investigation for R37 million in unpaid taxes. SARS had previously stated in August that progress was being made in their case against the high-profile businesswoman.

The raid came just days after MaMkhize and Mpisane officially ended their six-year legal battle. The Durban High Court dissolved their marriage on Monday, November 18, bringing an end to a tumultuous chapter that began when MaMkhize filed for divorce in October 2018.

During their separation, the former couple continued living in their sprawling La Lucia mansion, dividing it into two wings: MaMkhize occupied the northern section while Mpisane resided in the southern wing. It remains uncertain how the property will be divided now that their divorce is finalised.

Reports suggest that Mpisane sought a 50% share of their multimillion-rand estate as part of the divorce settlement. However, it is unclear whether the court granted him his request.

Speaking to Daily Sun, Mpisane acknowledged the end of their marriage but refrained from disclosing specific details due to legal restrictions.

“After six years of wrestling, the Durban High Court finally dissolved the marriage. According to the Divorce Act of 1979 in South Africa, the court prohibits the publication of information that comes to light during divorce proceedings. I will not be divulging what the judge decided should happen after a divorce decree was granted,” he said.

During the lengthy proceedings, MaMkhize reverted to her maiden name, Mkhize, even before the divorce decree was granted.
