South African police have arrested a 26-year-old man who allegedly shot dead an Uber driver in cold blood in the streets of Berea, Johannesburg.
The man was nabbed at Jabulani Hostel, Soweto, following a joint operation by JMPD TRU and SAPS.
Authorities also seized an unlicensed firearm during the raid and subsequent arrest. The suspect is facing charges of murder and is expected to appear in court soon.

Upon his arrest, the South African Police Service did not release the suspect’s name, but X investigators quickly rushed to work and fished him out. His name is Kwanda Ngubane.
An internal police report revealed:
“On Thursday, 24/09/26, at about 20:00, members of JMPD TRU and SAPS Gauteng tracking team followed up on information of two suspects who shot and killed an Uber driver at Lily and Olivia Street in Berea, Johannesburg. The operational team conducted a takedown operation at Jabulani Hostel, Soweto, where one of the suspects was hiding.
“Block (8) room no.1 was searched and one suspect was found sleeping, Kwanda Ngubane, who matches the same description of the footage and still wearing the same clothes. He was found with an unlicensed firearm, magazine and ten rounds of live ammunition in his possession. The suspect was arrested and detained at Jabulani SAPS.”
The Incident
In a video trending online, two men approached the car and blocked both front doors. One was seemingly arguing with the Uber driver and took his car keys. The suspect at the driver’s window then walked a few steps away before firing at the car.
The Uber driver came out of the car before the suspect planted four bullets into him, and he fell dead.
