‘South Africa COVID-19 cases are going down’

Professor. Salim Abdool Karim, Chairperson of the COVID-19 Ministerial Advisory Committee has signaled that the number of COVID-19 cases in South Africa is going down compared to July when the country reached its first peak.
This is despite the fact that the southern African country has since recorded 726 823 COVID-19 cases with 19 411 succumbing to the virus. He said:
“When we first started in March we had a rising epidemic and we had our peak in July but we have managed to curb the virus we are now at 5 cases per hundred thousand per day.
We relatively have low transmissions over the country. The number of admissions are coming down even the number of those who are testing positive it’s around 8 percent.
‘South Africa COVID-19 Cases Are Going Down’Moreso, Professor. Karim urged residents not to let their guard down simply because the government is easing lockdown restrictions.
“As government eases restrictions people are also easing their guard. Right now we need to maintain vigilance and promote awareness as well as enforcing stringent measures around public gatherings and we need to take more responsibility as a nation.”
