Supersport, Pirates Ready For MTN8 Second Leg

By Daniel Itai

The current MTN8 defending champions Supersport United, and Orlando Pirates have expressed optimism in the outcomes of the second leg of the MTN8 semifinals.

Last weekend, Pirates outmanoeuvred Kaizer Chiefs by three goals to nil giving them a nudge going into the second leg of the semifinal. On the other hand, Supersport United shared spoils with Bloemfontein Celtic following their one-all draw but Supersport’s gaffer, Kaitano Tembo, has since said tomorrow’s second leg encounter is theirs to get.

“We are not at the backfoot we are actually very much still in the game. Our boys are calm and ready and we know we have a good chance of winning this match and progressing to the finals. We are ready for Celtic,” said Tembo.

Moreso, Pirates who will meet with their bitter archrival on Sunday also said they were ready for Chiefs despite not having their head coach, Josef Zinnbauer, who left for Germany on Sunday due to a family emergency.

“Our assistant coach Fadlu Davids, will be our interim head coach until he comes back and we have confidence in him that he will hold the fort,” said Floyd Mbele, Pirates’ administrative manager.

Mbele also poured cold water on some social media messages that have been making the rounds insinuating that Zinnbauer had been fired.

“He is still the head coach but he is attending a family emergency in Germany so our assistant coach Fadlu Davids, will now be the interim head coach but he’s coming back. As for the precise date it’s not definite but he will come back as soon as the issue he is currently encountering subsides so people should not panic thinking that it’s a back door exist.

How can we fire someone who has just had a resounding three-nil victory? That’s not possible, but for now the assistant coach will lead the team whilst we wait for him to come back if there are any changes we will definitely update,” added Mbele.
