Khosi Ngema, renowned for her role in Blood & Water, is delving into her true passion, music. Recently, she debuted her single, “Why,” marking her official entry into the music scene.

The Birth of Kho”si

Similar to other artists who adopt alter egos, such as Beyoncé’s Sasha Fierce and Eminem’s Slim Shady, Khosi Ngema embraces her stage persona, Kho”si. Explaining her choice, she mentions, “I was drawn to the unique spelling of Kho”si, setting it apart from my everyday identity as Khosi. It’s a homage to my grandmother, who inspired my love for music.”

Khosi’s musical style is a blend of soothing melodies and lively rhythms. Describing her sound, she says, “There’s an emotional depth to my music, reflecting vulnerability and soulfulness. ‘Why’ embodies this fusion, serving as both an upbeat dance track and a poignant expression of personal emotions.”

A Musical Legacy

Music has always been a significant part of Khosi’s life. Growing up surrounded by musicians and actors, including her father, Mangaliso Ngema, she was immersed in a world of creativity from a young age. Recalling her musical roots, she reminisces, “My grandmother, Patience Africa, was a musician, and her influence introduced me to iconic artists like Tracy Chapman and Michael Jackson. I knew early on that music was my calling.”

Khosi’s journey with music began with learning instruments like the guitar and piano. Looking ahead, Khosi envisions collaborating with esteemed artists both locally and globally. Expressing her aspirations, she shares, “I admire the work of artists like Shekinah, Mlindo, and Ami Faku. Internationally, collaborating with icons like Drake and Sabrina Claudio would be a dream come true.”
