The Chauke family has postponed the burial of their nine-year-old daughter Onthatile so that her father, Shebeshxt, can attend.

 

The Tragic Road Accident

Onthatile Chuene, the nine-year-old daughter of South African rapper Shebeshxt, tragically passed away in a car accident on the R37 road near Smelters Mine in Limpopo on Saturday, 9 June 2024. His Volkswagen Polo collided head-on with a truck before overturning.

Shebeshxt, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, is receiving medical care at Netcare Pholoso Hospital in Limpopo following the accident.

The rapper shared his sorrow on social media, stating, “My life will never be the same without your presence.” The incident has deeply affected the family and fans alike.

In addition to mourning his daughter’s death, Shebeshxt may face legal challenges. There is an ongoing police investigation, and he could potentially be charged with culpable homicide related to the car crash.

Police provincial spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic event. As part of the investigation, police have requested statements from Shebeshxt’s family and his partner, Kholofelo Chuene, who is also Onthatile’s mother.

Medical examinations will include checking his blood alcohol levels as part of the standard investigative procedure.

Family Postpones Daughter’s Burial So That Shebeshxt Can Attend

The funeral arrangements are underway, and there is hope that Shebeshxt will be able to attend his daughter’s funeral despite his hospitalisation. The family had initially arranged for Onthatile to be buried on 14 June 2024. However, they have pushed the date back for Shebeshxt.

A source who spoke to Sunday World revealed that the family had initially wanted to bury Shebeshxt’s daughter last week with the help of the Limpopo Arts Movement. However, they have postponed the funeral to next weekend.

“They are hopeful that Shebeshxt would have recovered well enough to attend his daughter’s funeral.”
