Jacob Zuma, the former President and co-founder of uMkhonto Wesizwe, is grieving the loss of his eldest brother, Ngekengithule Zuma.

A Time of Sorrow

Despite the conclusion of the general elections and political leaders awaiting the results, Zuma is deeply affected by his brother’s death due to age-related health issues. A family member remarked, “He is profoundly saddened by this loss. Msholozi and his brother were very close, and it is particularly tragic for this to occur at such a pivotal moment for the country. He cannot even celebrate his party’s success.”

Expressions of Condolence

The MK Party issued a statement confirming the death of Joseph Ngekengithule Zuma, expressing their condolences:

“The uMkhonto Wesizwe Party sends heartfelt condolences to President Zuma on the passing of his brother, uBaba uJoseph Ngekengithule Zuma. May his soul rest in peace.”

This is not the first time Zuma has faced the loss of a sibling. In July 2021, he lost his younger brother, Michael Zuma, at the age of 77, following a prolonged undisclosed illness. At that time, Zuma was still serving a prison sentence and was granted compassionate leave to mourn his brother.

Jacob Zuma and the MK Party’s Stand in Elections

Like other parties and politicians, Jacob Zuma and his family have raised concerns about the elections being rigged to favour the ANC. This came after some results which were clearly doc stored were shared all over social media.

There are many calls for the counting process or even redoing of the elections to be done to avoid such mistakes. The former president, who has been in and out of court due to disputes within and outside his party, is concerned.
