In a rare show of unity, the Eastern Cape and Gauteng governments have pledged support alongside the National Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture to facilitate the funeral arrangements for the late songstress Zahara.

Multi-award-winning songstress Bulelwa Mkutukana, who was well-known by her stage name Zahara died on Monday night due to liver complications. Zahara was just 36 years old. Her final moments were spent surrounded by the warmth of her family and loved ones, marking the end of a chapter for a beloved musical talent.
Government Steps in to Honor Zahara
According to The Citizen, the Office of Sports, Arts, and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa has confirmed an uplifting collaboration between the Eastern Cape and Gauteng governments alongside the National Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture. Their joint efforts will facilitate the funeral arrangements for Zahara, ensuring a befitting tribute to the cherished artist.
Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane expressed a solemn commitment to orchestrating a farewell that befits Zahara’s revered status.
“Working with the family and Buffalo City Metro, we are going to make sure she is given a funeral that is of her stature. We are ready for this, this is our daughter who was loved by many and soothed many through her music,” Mabuyane affirmed, highlighting the collective determination to honor Zahara’s memory
Support for the Grieving Family
Sport, Arts, and Culture Spokesperson Litha Mpondwana confirmed the unwavering support from the National Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture, as well as the Gauteng and Eastern Cape provincial governments.
While specific details remain undisclosed, their pledge to stand by the Mkutukana family during this difficult period underscores the unified effort to uphold Zahara’s profound impact.
