DA leader Mmusi Maimane claims he vote for former president Nelson Mandela, but he only was born in 1980 – making him too young to vote when Mandela ran for president.

If you do the math, he would have been 14 at the time. So how could he have voted?

“I voted for Madiba in 1994 because the ANC was better when Nelson Mandela was at the helm of the party.” said Mmusi Maimane in Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Saturday.

But Mmusi was lying to thousands of people who watched the broadcast on television. By 1994, Mmusi’s age did not allow him to cast his vote because he was still young. Nelson Mandela was already out during the following elections.

People have taken to social media to expose lies told by Mmusi in his attempt to win votes for the DA. His party is also accused of stealing Madiba’s legacy and for trying to distort history. ANC stalwart Winnie Madikizela – Mandela issued a statement accusing the DA for plagiarism.

“Why the DA never mentioned its own founding fathers and why the party should go out of its way to refer to other political parties’ historic leaders.” asked Winnie Mandela.

It is not clear as to why no one in the DA picked it up that Maimane’s lie is foolish and will not see just another day.
