A snake recently caused havoc at a local Pick n Pay when it scooped a mouthful of bank notes from a till and escaped. The unbelievable events unfolded over the weekend in Matitiele, Eastern Cape.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the over 2 meter Python belonged to a local businessman who is well known in the community for using muthi. An eye witness said the reptile appeared from nowhere and snapped a wad of R200 notes from a till point. Brave eyewitnesses chased the snake which was moving at lightning speed and caught it just as it was about to enter the drainage system and stoned it to death.

One source said : “We know the owner of the snake. He is a businessman and very arrogant with his staff”. Community members wanted to burn the suspected owner of the snake but police intervened. The man is also said to have fled the area in a huff.

When iMzansi contacted Pick n Pay, the lady who answered the phone said she was not authorised to speak to the media and hung up the phone.

The SPCA was eventually called and took the snake away but warned residents to desist from killing snakes especially pythons because they are a protected specie.
