Uyajola Presenter Jub Jub Granted R10 000 Bail Amid R*pe and Attempted Murder Charges
Popular TV presenter and well-known hip hop artist, Jub Jub, whose real name is Molemo Maarohanye, has been released on R10,000 bail following his appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court. The charges against him include alleged rape, attempted murder, and assault.
These accusations were brought against him by a prominent actress and media personality in February 2022. Jub Jub surrendered himself to the police in Brixton after a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Confirmation from Gauteng Police
Gauteng police spokesperson, Mavela Masondo, confirmed that the case was scheduled to be heard in the magistrate’s court on the date of the incident. In his statement, Masondo said, “Police can confirm that a well-known rapper handed himself over to the police in Brixton on Thursday, 27 July 2023, after a warrant of arrest was issued against him. He is expected to appear before the Johannesburg magistrate’s court today facing charges of rape, attempted murder, and assault.”
Investigation and Arrest
The circumstances surrounding the alleged offenses committed by Maarohanye, who is famous for hosting the popular show “Uyajola 99” on Moja Love, have not been fully disclosed. Police sources, close to the investigation, reveal that the matter has been under scrutiny. After the investigation docket was submitted to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for a decision, it was determined that Jub Jub should be apprehended.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a police officer stated, “After getting a tip-off that he was wanted by the police, he decided to hand himself in. After police were satisfied that there was a strong case against the suspect, the NPA took a decision to prosecute.”
