Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi Speaks Her Mind On Weaves

Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi has registered her thoughts concerning the ongoing controversial debate on women who wear weaves and who prefer not having their natural hair.

Zozibini Tunzi has been on a natural hair journey for at least three years. She was put on the spot by a social media user who was trolling women who wear hair extensions such as weaves and wigs and the Twitter user also suggested that Miss Universe should teach women to love their own natural hair.

The ‘natural hair activist’ responded to a post in which Zozi was congratulating the new recently crowned Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo Musida by suggesting that women should follow in Miss Universe and Miss South Africa’s footsteps.

He wrote:

@zozitunzi Niyabavithiza straight ngoku aba sisi be weave. Masithembe nalo sisi uzonyathela ezinyathelweni zakho abe ngu Miss Universe
@abigailmusida Ndo dakala zwa huri vhathu vha zwo tshi divha huri having a weave thohoni doesn’t mean you’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.

However, the beauty queen then used the opportunity to emphasize that women are free to choose whatever hairstyle they want and feel comfortable in. Miss Universe said added that all women are beautiful regardless of whether they have natural hair or weaves and all women should be celebrated regardless of their choices of hairstyle.

“It’s actually not about that. It’s about autonomy. The ability of women expressing themselves however they choose to. It’s about saying we are all beautiful in our natural hair and in weaves for those who choose to. It’s not a competition but a celebration of ALL Women”
