In 2022, Zahara faced the possibility of losing her townhouse due to defaulting on her monthly instalments amounting to R17,665.40. Nedbank, the financial institution that had provided her with a R1.9 million loan, was preparing to auction off her home to the highest bidder.

Having appealed for public support, Zahara expressed her gratitude to her fans for their response, including a significant contribution from a generous businessman.

It was later revealed by Sunday World that the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, led by Julius Malema, had assisted Zahara by contributing R100,000 toward her outstanding loan.

Despite the EFF’s aid, Zahara’s house was eventually auctioned off prior to her passing. However, Marten Bekker, the buyer of the property, permitted Zahara to remain in the house for a few months while she endeavored to raise the necessary funds for its repurchase.

The Fundraising Concert: Artists Unite to Help Repurchase Zahara’s Roodepoort House

According to The South African, Zahara’s sisters, Lumka Mkutukana and Bandezwa Mkutukana-Febana, disclosed that they have already secured Orient Theatre in East London as the venue for the fundraising concert. While they have reached out to various musicians to perform at the event, the family acknowledged that they cannot afford to pay their usual booking fees. Instead, they plan to provide a modest honorarium they humorously refer to as a “cold drink.”

Former Scandal! actress Lusanda Mbane has been entrusted with hosting the event, which will showcase performances by esteemed artists including Khanyisa Sabuka, Butho Vuthela, Ivory Sikepe, Nathi Mankayi, and Zahara’s best friend, Vusi Nova.
