‘I’m not your wife’ Zandie Khumalo Loses Temper, Tells Advocate To Watch His Tone
Tensions ran high during the cross-examination of state witness Zandie Khumalo by defense lawyer Advocate Zithulele Nxumalo, who represents accused number four in the Meyiwa murder trial. Zandie Khumalo, the popular singer and witness, was questioned about her statements, and Nxumalo pointed out an apparent inconsistency regarding her attempt to dial 10111 during the incident.
Zandie stated that she did try to make the call, but it slipped her memory when providing her testimony in court. She defended herself, stating that she has no control over what the police officer recorded in her statement.
Zandie Clashes with Defense Lawyer over SMS Discrepancy
Advocate Nxumalo also probed Zandie about a discrepancy between her statement and that of her then-boyfriend Longwe Twala. According to an SMS sent to “Twala 2,” Longwe reportedly mentioned that Senzo Meyiwa was shot in front of them. Nxumalo questioned Zandie on this matter, but she responded by suggesting that Longwe should testify in court. She maintained that she couldn’t speak on his behalf and was present to defend herself.
‘Please Watch Your Tone,’ Zandie Tells Defense Lawyer
During the tense cross-examination, Advocate Nxumalo asked Zandie to keep her answers brief. In response, Zandie demanded that he watch his tone while speaking to her, asserting that she was not his wife but someone else’s spouse. The lawyer felt intimidated by her words and called for court intervention. Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng intervened and urged both parties to respect the decorum of the court.
Debate over Intruders and Innocent People
Another heated exchange occurred when Advocate Nxumalo suggested that Senzo Meyiwa was killed by someone inside the house and referred to an affidavit by Zamokuhle Mbatha, the man initially arrested for Meyiwa’s murder but later found not guilty. Nxumalo implied that Zandie, her mother, and Mthokozisi Twala had a tendency to point out innocent people to avoid the idea that the deceased was killed by one of the people inside the house. Zandie vehemently denied this claim, stating that there were intruders responsible for the tragedy.’
