End Of The Road For Mzansi Magic Isibaya

All has not been well behind scenes on once best South African soapie, Isibaya, and there has been a lot of effort in trying to revive characters. I guess it has not been a simple decision to make but Isibaya is coming to an end on Mzansi Magic.

Isibaya hasn’t been doing well in terms of viewership. Its ratings have been gradually decreasing for years now and Mzansi Magic has finally made its decision to pull off the plug on the show.

It makes sense now why so many big names on the show left. The likes of Siyabonga Thwala, who played the beloved character of Mpiyakhe Zungu, wrapped up the show after going 8 years strong. He joins the likes of Nomzamo Mbatha, Menzi Ngubane and Jessica Nkosi who also left.

According to insiders, their exits were to do with finances and contractual disputes with Isibaya producers. The show creators have tried to revive the storyline by bringing in some of Mzansi’s most recognisable faces to energize its ratings but all did not help.

According to the Broadcast Research Council of South Africa viewership numbers for September, Isibaya didn’t appear in the top five most-watched shows on DStv. It makes so much sense that the show has been failing to meet its worker’s salary demands now that its viewership is dropping drastically.

Well-placed sources have told Daily Sun that Isibaya would not be renewed for the last season due to these reasons. Contracts were supposed to be renewed this October but sources have claimed that they still haven’t been. With the latest developments, and by reading between the lines, Isibaya has indeed come to an end.
