generations the legacy

Generation’s Lost Legacy

Do you remember the good old day when we would all huddle up Infront of the TV, with a cup of tea, a glass of juice, and a snack, waiting in anticipation for the week’s new episode of Generations? Aah, the good old days. When 8 pm meant everyone is done eating and we can enjoy the daily installment of what was one of the best soapies we have ever had in Mzansi.

Engrossed in the manner the Moroka family went by their routine in the morning, a table full of food, light conversation over the day’s plans. Karabo sipping on her orange juice, dishing up her eggs and bacon, only to have one bite of the food and rush to work.

She gets to New Horizons and is welcomed by Queen’s annoying tendencies of not minding the guests at the business, but fixing her make up first lest anyone see her looking anything less than perfect. Queen’s “Hello Darling” was the standard greeting for every business associate, known to her or unknown and she would go on as though that isn’t invasive?

It was the familiarity of it all, the aspiration of it, it was the black excellence that we could all become. It was wanting to become a copywriter and seeing a black-owned agency produce some of the most brilliant adverts. It was the tangible dreaming that was so relatable. It was also just how extraordinary the Moroka family was but so relatable and so inspiring.

Head on over to SABC1 tonight at 8 pm and see if you get the same feeling, although, all things described here are derived from nostalgia, Things should evolve. Things should change, but please can it be for the better? What legacy are these Generations carrying? What is creativity is it carrying over to the next generation of soapie makers?
