According to him, monogamy is the root cause of men’s infidelity. He further asserts that as long as polygamy remains stigmatized, men will continue to cheat due to the constraints imposed by this Western concept. Musa Mseleku believes polygamy is the answer to stop men from cheating.

Society makes it difficult for married men to speak out about dating outside their marriage. We took a Western custom, where a man is only allowed to date one person, and incorporated it into our African customs. It’s not part of our custom, hence men will continue to cheat,” Musa Mseleku asserted.

He further lamented the lack of a platform for open dialogue on this matter. Mseleku believed that when a man feels attacked or judged by his spouse, he tends to withdraw from the conversation, which might ultimately lead to him seeking affection elsewhere.

We’re not being given a platform for discussion. Of course, it’s impossible to have a discussion with a lioness. The moment I feel attacked, I’ll walk away from the conversation. However, you can’t stop me from being loved,” he said

 Insights into Polygamous Challenges

Mseleku, a seasoned practitioner of polygamy, openly acknowledged that the polygamous lifestyle wasn’t without its challenges.

He spoke of the need to constantly nurture and affirm each relationship to prove one’s unwavering love. He also emphasized the importance of making sure that each wife feels valued, as jealousy and insecurity can disrupt the harmony of a polygamous household.

The hardships of polygamy are to maintain [the relationships] and to prove beyond reasonable doubt that you love this person you are with because if that person feels a second, a third, or fourth is taken because of their shortcomings, you will never have a peaceful life. And if those who are coming think they are coming because they are better than the first wife, you will never have a peaceful home. It is to reach a stage where it is natural they accept each other as sisters.”
